Why choose Blue Star

We have held CSLB license #880647, class C-20 warm-air heating, ventilating and air conditioning, since 2006, and we work out of our shop at 3660 Wilbur Ave in Antioch. We quote the job. On replacements we pull the permit and line up the required ECC (formerly HERS) testing. We look at the whole system, from equipment and ducts to filters and thermostat, not just the part that failed. We take cash, checks and credit cards.

Where we work

We work across East County, from Antioch, Pittsburg and Bay Point out through Oakley, Brentwood, Discovery Bay, Byron, Knightsen, Bethel Island and Rio Vista, plus Concord, Clayton, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, Martinez, Lafayette and Moraga. The work changes by town. The Antioch weather station has recorded 117F, so AC carries the load in East County. Delta homes often heat with propane or electric, and Central County's 1950s-70s houses tend to need duct and furnace attention.

Colton was great. He found the problem right away and did a temporary fix to get my a/c running until he could get the right part ordered. He also made sure every inside was working well.

Questions we hear

How often should a heating and air system be serviced?

Twice a year works for most homes: an AC check in spring before the heat arrives, and a furnace or heat pump check in fall. In East County, where condensers run hard all summer and Delta wind blows dust into the coils, skipping the spring visit is what often leads to a midsummer breakdown. Between visits, check the filter monthly and change it when it looks dirty.

Should I repair or replace my HVAC system?

It depends on age, repair history and what failed. A capacitor, igniter or contactor on a 10-year-old system is usually worth fixing. A failed compressor or cracked heat exchanger on an older system is often the point to replace. Units that still run on R-22 refrigerant are costly to keep charged. We lay out both options with prices so you can decide.

Do you work on all brands of heating and air equipment?

Yes. We service and repair the major residential and light commercial brands, including older systems that still run on R-22 refrigerant. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you up front, and when it is safe to do so we can often make a temporary fix to keep the system running until the part arrives.

Do HVAC replacements in Contra Costa need a permit?

Yes. Under California's Title 24 energy code, replacing a furnace, air conditioner or heat pump needs a building permit, and most change-outs also need third-party ECC (formerly HERS) verification, including a duct leakage test. Cities like Antioch and Concord issue their own permits, while unincorporated areas such as Bay Point and Discovery Bay go through the County. We pull the permit as part of the job.

Do you work on apartment complexes and commercial buildings?

Yes. Along with single-family homes, we service apartment and multifamily properties and commercial buildings, including rooftop package units. Property managers can call one contractor for repairs, replacements and maintenance across their units. Tell us how many buildings you have and what equipment is on site, and we will set up a plan for service and quotes.
